This week has been a busy week. The Bolton Landing Farmer's Market has started for the season. The first day was slower than vendors had hoped for, but with a new location and a rough forecast earlier in the week it was no surprise. It did however allow the vendors to visit each others booths, an event that rarely happens at Markets and Shows. With local lavender products, flowers, eggs, cheeses, meats, fruits, vegetables, honey, and maple syrup, crepes and Mediterranean meals, as well as some great turmeric products, soaps, candles, metal work, jewelry, coffee, and a booth by yours truly it really is a great stop with some wonderful people. If you live local, or are just passing through on your way to one of the many beautiful lakes, hiking trails, or other local attractions you will not be disappointed.
Special orders have been coming in for onesies as well as requests for larger kid sizes, so I have been busy painting and have placed an order for Fair Trade Organic Cotton Shirts designed in the USA in wonderfully bright colors for both boys and girls in sizes 18 months to 6:) Just a reminder that among the special order options is the possibility for your pets portrait. I have painted customers dogs, cats, chickens, bunnies, and this week I received a request for a pet goat:) Please contact me with any questions in terms of available "blank" stock and send an image of your pet/pets for pricing and a timeframe.
As for the property, we are filling in and smoothing out the ditch that was dug for our electric to create a foot path through the woods to the side door of our new house!:) I have also been weeding, mulching and working on the area next to the future studio (a side shop of the preexisting garage...currently being used for storage) and preexisting playhouse which houses some long neglected roses and peonies, as well as some newly planted flowers and my "relocation garden" (wildflowers I have dug up from the side of the road or the yard to save the blooms from the town and domestic lawnmowers:). I have uncovering a path of stepping stones placed by the previous owners which has been lost under the overgrowth for years, now providing a wonderful little walkway from the arbor to the playhouse (which is currently filled with the beds and tv stand for our future house, and at the moment, has been rendered useless for enjoyment). Today I am working on creating a space for the lilies and hostas my mother has been begging me to take from her garden for the last 3 years:) It feels great to finally be able to chip away at the exterior to do list. My daughter helps me dig and water plants most mornings and once the house can be filled the other outbuildings can be turned into functioning spaces within a few days!
Hello! Welcome to Casey Beal Designs Blog. I have never written a blog before so a heads up to blog enthusiasts everywhere:) I will have typos and cover a variety of topics, but I hope to be entertaining, informative, and inspiring as you explore the world of a young(er) as of yet, undiscovered artist, explorer, and hobbyist Homesteader:). My husband and I share a property of about 11 acres in the Lower Adirondacks. We are currently in the process of building a house, so many extra projects i.e. gardens, greenhouse, proper chicken coop, goat pen, fenced in dog area, interior designing, a sweet studio, woodshop, etc. have been on hold...but, the wait is almost over! Three long (and wonderful:P) years living full time in a camper, collecting water from the creek for bathing and running 150 ft across our yard to the outhouse will soon be in the past. It is not that we would not like to one day live off the grid, but some of these adventures were unexpected and not of our choosing. With the optimistic outlook that projects would be done sooner than time would show we often put off minor repairs thinking, "It is only a little bit longer" "We could fix this, or put it towards the house"...sound familiar? The camper has handed us a few slaps to the face, but it has also provided us the ability to buy a beautiful piece of land and slowly build our dream home without going further into debt. And man is this next move going to be epic!!! There are boxes I have not opened in years, Christmas decorations, wedding gifts, furniture lovingly donated by friends and family, kitchen gadgets:)
We now have a few chickens, a couple goats, a daughter, and a realistic life long dream to grow old together and forever build on our relationship and property.
