The last few weeks have been busy with special orders for the holidays, getting some card designs painted and printed, adding inventory to the website, and purchasing supplies to create new work!!! It is a crazy time of following my dreams, while battling what is essentially a nonexistent budget. Luckily, I live quite simply, and have accumulated a variety of art supplies throughout the years with which to grow my inventory and experiment with (finally:P).
The studio space I have lined up for expanding into is located on the second story of an old brick building in the heart of downtown Middleburgh. It is truly a dream space, in which I can finally take all my supplies out of boxes, and spread out. There is ample room for large projects and a gallery display!...but alas, winter has just begun, and heating costs and homeschooling limit me to my house, and a closet of boxes with which to play tetris when my creative juices have me needing one supply or another not currently at my workspace (the dining room table). For now, I feel like I am growing inside a chrysalis, preparing to emerge with the coming of Spring:) Changes are happening out of sight, and the space is feeling tighter every day, but there is also a promise of freedom and beauty building inside, waiting to be shared with others, when this long season ends.

I did something REALLY BIG last week! On Friday I handed in my last assignment with an amazing company for which I have been working as a private contractor the last 4 years. Over the last 5 years I have juggled this, along with other jobs in my community, while raising my young daughter. Many sacrifices have been made for family and community, often at the expense of free time in which to build my own inventory and online presence.
As is often the case, life did not follow my plans for it:P This year in which I was to take back the studio once more following my daughters enrollment in school, was turned upside down by Covid-19. We have embraced these challenges with a busy day of play and homeschooling, with work hours coming after bedtime. I am excited to say that these after hours are now being spent to strengthen my own voice and build my business once more! For over 15 years I have sold my work through Fine Craft Shows, Galleries, Artist Co-ops, Farmers Markets, Festivals, and Gift Shops. With this year of uncertainty, many opportunities set up the previous year were cancelled, but an increase in special order requests and a mural painting for the community have renewed and strengthened my desire to regrow my business. I look forward to sharing my work locally, and with the larger online community in coming months! To see what I am up to in the studio please Follow “Casey Beal Designs” on Facebook and Instagram. |
